7-8:30 pm - Public Lecture, Julie Rubio (JST) and Kamal Abu-Shamsieh (GTU) 
They will will discuss ethical questions raised by the issue of assisted dying or “death with dignity” from Muslim and Christian ethical perspectives.
Note: The public lecture is held in the Tucson Room.

Topic

The papers for the Fall Meeting will explore questions related to Christian and Muslim perspectives on death, dying, and eschatology.

Friday afternoon will begin with a paper by Kamal Abu-Shamsieh (GTU) focusing on four elements of the ethics of care based on the end of life experience of the Prophet Muḥammad (docx, pdf), with Bryan Kromholtz, OP (DSPT) responding. This will be followed by a paper considering the form and role of the Christian funeral sermon by Shauna Hannan (PLTS) (pdf), with Purushottama Biliomoria (CDS) responding.

Saturday morning will begin with a paper by Christopher Hadley, SJ (JST) that investigates aspects of eschatology in contemporary theology (docx, pdf), with Ted Peters (PLTS) responding. A second paper may be added to the session.
